Whiteshell Scoop - 2025 - Issue 1.
A devestating May.
By now, many of you have heard about the wildfires affecting parts of Whiteshell Provincial Park and the surrounding areas. Our hearts are heavy as we watch this situation unfold in a place that means so much to all of us.
We are keeping everyone in our thoughts — especially the brave crews and first responders working tirelessly on the front lines.
We are also thinking of all the families, cottagers, and communities who are impacted, and we are hoping for minimal property loss and a quick return to safety for everyone.
The Whiteshell is more than just a place — it’s a community, it’s memories, it’s home. We are with you, and we are sending strength and support to everyone affected.
Effective 9:00 AM on Thursday, May 15, Whiteshell Provincial Park will be closed due to extreme wildfire conditions.
All public and private areas — including cottage subdivisions, commercial areas, campgrounds, trails, beaches, and backcountry — will be restricted. Everyone must vacate by 1:00 PM that today.
Please stay safe, follow all evacuation orders and fire restrictions.

Did you know?
Whiteshell Provincial Park is home to some of the oldest known Indigenous petroforms (rock formations) in North America — believed to be over 1,000 years old!
These sacred stone patterns, shaped like turtles, snakes, humans, and abstract symbols, were created by Indigenous peoples for spiritual ceremonies, teaching, and navigation.
You can still visit them today at the Bannock Point Petroforms site near Nutimik Lake.
